A European Tree Technician is defined as a person employed in, or aspiring to, junior or middle management, or taking a supervisory role in arboriculture.
European Tree Technicians are skilled in operations on and in amenity trees with the aim of keeping them healthy and safe whilst bearing in mind the demands of biodiversity. In particular they act on the basis of current best practice within ar-boriculture, conservation, environmental protection and work safety.
Their field of competence will also include technical knowledge, organisational and supervisory skills.

2. Conditions of Entry The examination is open to those candidates, who can prove that have either: A European Tree Worker certificate or holder of a certification or diploma in the green industry recognized by a national arboricultural organisation together with the EAC and with at least 3 years current experience in the field of green industry.
3. Examination The examination is divided into the following parts:
Written examination The written examination consists of 50% short questions (duration about 60 minutes) and 50% longer, essay type questions (duration about 120 minutes). This exam is supervised and should take no longer than 180 minutes.
Management exercises in the field of tree inspections The candidate will be asked to undertake a tree survey of trees and under-take a detailed tree inspection of an individual tree, giving recommendations for remedial action in each case. The management exercise will include oral questions. This exam should take no longer than 60 minutes . Management exercises in economics, law and social studies In this management exercise the candidate will be asked to prove that he/she is able to recognise, analyse and assess various economic, legal and social aspects, within his/her task area. The management exercise will include oral questions. This should take no longer than 180 minutes.

The aim of the project is to develop a higher qualification level in arboriculture - The European Tree Technician - using as a base the existing European Tree Worker qualification.
The project includes following activities:
-To summarize and specify the current knowledge, technology, health and safety standards in arboriculture -To establish the standards of professional skills, educational programs, training assessment, examination and an international certification program for the European Tree Technician

-To develop training materials and teachers skills according to the new qualification -To present the Latvian training and labor market with a completely new qualification that meets European conditions -To translate the European Tree Worker handbook into the Latvian language -To disseminate a new qualification in the education system and industry of the participating countries and the wider European network

Results After the meetings of partners in Latvia, Denmark, France and Great Britain, the following results got agreed with: - Developing the European Tree Technician curriculum and harmonizing of terminology - Developing examination and certification rules - Developing examination test - Drawing up a schema how to systemize pictures for training material kit - Simulator in training process is approved - Agreement between partners about participation in Leonardo-da-Vinci mobility project for teachers exchange in France - SE, DK and LV with support of DE, FR and UK working out guidance of methodology how to draw up national standard |
